Harry Griendling is a poet and published songwriter whose work blends lyrical sensitivity with lived experience. Born and raised in West Philadelphia, Harry discovered the power of words early on, first through songwriting and later through poetry. What began as imitations of his musical heroes grew into a distinctive voice, one that captures the emotional landscape of everyday life and the quiet beauty within it. His poetry, much like his songs, carries a natural rhythm sometimes structured, sometimes free-flowing, yet always grounded in emotion. Through rhyme, metaphor, and imagery, Harry contemplates relationships, memory, and the passage of time, crafting pieces that are as musical on the page as they are in spirit. Many of his works draw inspiration from family, friendships, nature, travel, and the small and large moments that shape our lives. A graduate of The Pennsylvania State University with both a BS in Education and an MS in Writing and Education, Harry has taught writing and business at Penn State,
Villanova, and Temple Universities. He founded and led a successful talent consulting firm for 25 years before dedicating himself fully to his creative work. Today, he divides his time between Philadelphia and Maui. When he isn’t writing, Harry enjoys travelling, sports, hiking and swimming in Maui, and spending time with his daughter, his son-in-law, and his grandchildren.
Riding Gravity has captivated readers with its emotional depth and lyrical beauty. Here’s what they have to say about this powerful collection of poetry.
